penang[at]food[dot]com
"For after all, what is man in nature? A nothing in relation to infinity. All in relation to nothing. A central point between all and nothing and indefinitely far from understanding either" , crapped by Jason, 2009
The decision to go to penang was totally random and was made during the raya breaks last weekend. Also known as the 'heaven of food', the little island never disappoints any food-hunter, both professionals or amateurs. People from all around the world goes to penang to discover all, if there's still any, the 'hidden' treasures that they have to offer that yet to be made famous. ;)
So I went around trying out all the good food recommended by the townspeople. The best and only the best available in penang. (and yes, im not talking about the laksa in pasar ayer hitam)!
Shocked huh? heh ;)
claypot chicken rice from Gurney's Drive
add in rice, bits of pieces of chicken, mushrooms, chinese sausages and some salted fish all in a big claypot and whaala this is what you'll get. a very typical one that you can almost get it from just about any streets of penang.
awesomeness saying - the amount of salted fish added was just nice. not too much. not too little. greatly balanced out the taste of the chinese sausages slices. the rice was a little hard though. all in all, a great one to start the day, or end with it. heh ;)
rating - 7/10
'ah yee ping' from Padang
something like abc. the only difference is that the absence of the read beans and 'the green long cendol thing' were substituted by this huge yellow jelly and some chopped fruits.
awesomeness saying - very refreshing! i just like it with the lime juice squeezed on top of it. makes it kinda sour and sweet all together. the perfect desert!
rating - 6.5/10
pinapple fried rice from Gurney's Drive
nothing extraordinary. a very typical dish you can get from almost anywhere. seriously
awesomeness saying - according to the townspeople, they said this is the bomb! dont ask me why. i dont know.
rating - 5/10
curry wan than mee nearbly pasar ayer hitam (this is the yellow mee version)
add in loads loads loads of bits of chicken curry and potatoes on top of the best wan than mee in penang. served blazing hot with some old wodden chopsticks .
awesomeness saying - HOLY SHIT MAN THIS KICK ASS! the yellow mee version is just as nice! the curry blends perfectly, if not heavenly with the wan than mee gravy. plus the 'cha siu' and 'wan than'. one word -AWESOMENESS!
rating - 9.5/10 (no shit!)
curry sotong mee from Kum Kee food court
a very innocent looking bowl of mee with the heart of a devil. the bits of fried cuttlefish inside this makes the cracking sound everytime you chew on it. heh ;)
awesomeness saying - im not particularly fond of squid. so i guess its kinda 'okay okay larr'
rating - 5/10
sui gao from Gurney's Drive
'gao choi', minced dried shrimps and loads of finely chopped radish. wrapped almost in perfection. preferably dipped in sambal paste before consuming.
awesomeness saying - hah! many people had tried and failed to produce good quality 'sui gao' before. so i guess this is the jackpot then. ;)
rating - 9.5/10 (yes, im still not shitting you) ;)
soy bean drink from Kum Kee food court
no introduction needed. everyone on planet earth has experienced it before.
awesomeness saying - man! either the beans were magically produced or i fucked my tastebuds so damn hard until one decent drink of soy bean can produce such a 'i'm in paradise' feeling. okay im exaggerating here ;)
rating - 8/10
ckt from Padang
penang is famous for its ckt. ckt and penang somehow comes together. even when all the powers from the gods of Galdigosh put together still cant manage to separate em' apart. heh ;)
awesomeness saying - FML! just look at the size of the prawn! its wider than my ipod's screen. and the taiwanese sausages are the bomb. the flavour, the texture, the richness, the goodness, the taste, the everything is fuck-my-life-ishh awesomeness!!
rating - 9.9/10 (okay, now im shitting you. its a perfect 10!) ;)
notes : you and me have different sensitivity in our tastebuds so there might be a case of different opinion. dont come around and argue with me that something out there somewhere is way better. im not interested. kthnxbai ;)

dumbness...
is...,
more than 30 worth of sleepless hours, 3 sohai, 1 beer tower and a 85% completed journey up to genting...
we were merely 20 minutes away from all the fun when god decided that we hadd wayy too much fun and took everything away...
thats when i almost tripped and fell off a cliff with a lighted cigarette on my palm..
never a dull moment, seriously...

My First Nuffnang Cheque!
hello hello beautiful people! ;)
its sure as hell my pleasure and of course an ultimate honour for all of you out there allowing me to express my deepest greatest outmost appreciation in all forms and let me spell out 'four little beautiful words' for all of you in this little site and help me making this magic happen. thank you very much! ;)
firstly, theres been alot of things going on with me right now so theres really limited time, and space for me to share all the details here. so in the meantime, allow me to share something with you about what im going through right now. if someone would ask me whats the happiest moment i've been so far and i would definitely say that this would be right on the top. ;)
i know im still new in this whole blogging scene but hey, im loving every moment of it! i like being given the chance to blog freely. to write what i like and like what i write and just dont give a fuck. i really do believe that im one of those people out there who are blessed, not by looks nor financial securities, fame, shiny cars and other similar fucks like that but the most important one, the ability to look pass through everything and smile even though deep inside im bleeding.
recently, i've been going through alot. a whole load of shit just presented themselves upon me for the past few days and im driving myself crazy by them. i cant continue to pretend that im chosing sides anymore cause i dont. i thought i was ready to bleed...i wasnt

eschatology....
time, tell me the truth.....
what the hell am i doing here? am supposed to have landed on the moon, cured cancer, fucked a chick in a parking lot long time ago and yet, here i am. by the time the clock hits 19, i've done absolutely nothing, literally. i cant continue.....
she told me her name. sounded familiar from a distance, until i realised i was way too far away....
we will always stay between the lines. it wasnt my fault, nor yours. your lips couldnt speak out those words, so i've learnt to listen through silence....
the bird in your mouth told me something i was expecting all along. eyes wide open only to be shut forever....
the words were finally released. stabbed me right in the heart. mine was so easy to uncover. yours went undercover....
i thought i was ready to bleed. i wasnt....

Happy 19th Bitch! Part 1 : Bubba Gump Shrimps
god!! after months and months and months months months of planning, it's finally here! the day where 19 years ago, two innocent baby boys were delivered into the face of this planet! today's our birthday! heh ;)
recalling the moments during my school days, there isn't anyone else that share the same birthday as me. it was kinda dull. not that i didnt have fun okay, i had loads of fun back then. (cheers kluangers). but here, i met a group of people that really made my college life a hell of a roller coaster ride until sometimes i even wonder why the hell the carts hasnt came off the rail yet! heh ;)
so to cut the whole story short, we had our birthday bash as usual, in maison. *puchhhorrrhandsseendeeehairrr!!*
there aren't many screw-ups this time, not that there was any last time, all in all, it went well. too well to the extend that i slept through it. fuck this shit.
*flashback*
anyway, before the whole birthday bash thingy started, we went to bubba gump shrimps for dinner. yea i know everyone already talked about it, blogged about it, told tales about it, and im the last person on planet earth to go there and i should jump off a cliff bla bla bla....

accidental fish & shrimps
this is what i had for dinner. broiled mahi mahi over some rice, with grilled shrimps and lemon sauce. i say that the sauce is kinda sour at first, well throughout the whole meal, but anyway, it was awesome! the shrimps are just succulent. so's the fish. a definite must try!

salmon & veggie skillet
this was what Yong had. looks good, but no idea about the taste. according to him, it has the same lemon sauce as mine. so its kinda sour too. but taste superb! heh ;)

clockwise from left : shrimper's heaven, salmon & veggie skillet, mama's southern fried chicken and accidental fish & shrimps.
every single one of them are awesome. plus the weird looking piece of pineapple chucked at the top of Zheng Hang's glass. haha damn cool okayyy...
we had a blast! and the best part? the party havent even started!! stay tuned for part 2 coming to you soon with photos loads of obscene gestures, drunk faces & absolute profanity.
p/s : sorry for the lack of pictures in this particular post. as you can see, we were too busy attacking our food. heh ;)
p/p/s : today's our birthday! both Eddy & Me! ;)

Thank God It's Friday!
this morning, i woke up with a big 'nooooooooo' coming right off my brain matter right before i gave myself a 'bang' to my head which turns out to be a bad idea after all because i hit my head so hard till i couldnt stand up straight on my feet which resulted in me falling face first down to the floor. talk about morning blues, this is more like morning sohainess of me. i fell the morning before too. only worse as i broke Eddy's laundry basket in the process. (yes, yes i spent the night with him. in fact i slept with him every night since the beginning of the week) heh ;)
had lunch at ah chong's. now there's a very interesting story behind the discovering of this fine luncheon rendezvous spot both by Liren and me. it was yesterday, around noon that we set off in search of this spot in abundance of wondrous meats, fresh garden-green veges and exquisite beverage galore. we were told that this place can be located by looking out for a 'luk luk van' somewhere out there. apparently the 'luk luk van' is in the vicinity of the place but after searching for more than 30 minutes, it was to no avail.
only some 30 minutes later that we managed to locate the place. ahhh i tell you the food was so great that i forgotten to take a picture of it. and the distinctive drink - honey lemon - is just so heavenly. not too sweet, nor too sour. sorry no picture available but rest assured, i'll write about it in my coming post. ;)
anyway, we skipped our maths class yesterday all in the name of searching the best chap-fan in nilai. for what it's worth, i think we made the right choise. i'd rather have 5 dishes to choose from in a soon-to-close chap fan stall than waste 5 minutes of my life listening to jokes i can get for free via the web.
to cut the whole story short, i am currently back home. gonna spend the weekend here. by the way, i still think that i've wasted too much time of my life on something i shoudnt even care about. tell me all about it.
on a sidenote, i sincerely believed that last night was a good night after all. ;)
tonight's gonna be a good night,
tonight's gonna be a good night,
tonight's gonna be a good good night.
i gotta feeling..... (ehmm hmmmm)
say hello to the birthday boy Yong!! ( the one on the right)
p/s : excuse my expression here. i was stoned and drunk. 24 ciggies did the job.

The need for senses
speaking of which, something i wish that i really have. but somehow the evidence suggest that im paying a shitload of money to someone to teach how to write only for me to fail miserably. im currently in a state of denial or god forsaken, lost.
judgment is something really subjective. there's no way of telling this is wrong and that is right. its the difference in motives that set em apart. how ironic? we used to think that everything that is right is right and everything is wrong is wrong but the evidence proved otherwise. something doing the right thing is not the right move and alternatively, doing the wrong thing is not necessary wrong. its the perspective of the modus operandi that in the end counts. like hey, who gives a fuck right if you're wrong you're wrong.
i still dont understand the reasoning behind all those contradictions thrown at me every time i present an idea, or much least, try to speak.
all in all, the need of senses is really important. we just lost ours last night. heh ;)
riddle no 1: what do you get when you add 5 packs of indomee goreng inside a plastic electric kettle 5 in the morning?
ans : 2 plates of these! heh ;)
riddle no 2 : what do you get when you take one plate of the illustration above and add in some seasoning?
ans : you'd probably get something like this. if you dont, you suck
riddle no. 3 : what do you get when you mix the ingredients with a 5months old plastic fork and a pair of wooden chopstick thoroughly?
ans : bon appetit! ;)
